Rahim Ali is a technical analyst in the Engineering and Applied Sciences division at the RAND Corporation. His research interests include critical infrastructure protection, community level resilience planning, climate change adaptation and mitigation, and disaster preparedness and recovery. During his time at RAND, Ali has supported research studies and led research tasks for the Department of Homeland Security, Department of the Air Force, and the Office of the Secretary of Defense. Examples of his research and analysis contributions include developing and reviewing cost and policy implications for post disaster recovery efforts, energy and water resilience planning for military infrastructure installations, geospatial risk assessments for critical infrastructure, and data analytics for climate change planning. Ali has prior work experience in the construction management industry where he conducted construction cost estimates, developed site logistic plans, and managed specific building trades on projects. He earned his M.S. in civil and environmental engineering with a focus in advanced infrastructure systems from Carnegie Mellon University and has a B.A. in architecture with a focus in sustainable design from U.C. Berkeley.
