Overview

Jonathan Welch is a senior policy analyst who works on a broad range of defense and intelligence matters. He began working with RAND in 2012. Before joining RAND he served on active duty in the United States Marine Corps (USMC) as an infantry officer. On active duty he deployed to Iraq with the infantry and as an advisor, trained new officers, and served as an aide-de-camp. He then transitioned to the USMC Reserves where he trained advisors and served in planner billets for information operations and the Indo-Pacific region. From 2015-2018 he mobilized as an information operations planner and established an information operations section (G-39) at U.S. Marine Corps Forces Europe and Africa (MARFOREUR/AF) in Stuttgart, Germany. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Marine Engineering, from the State University of New York Maritime College and a Master of Arts in International Relations and International Economics from Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies.
